Kemin Industries, a global ingredient manufacturer that strives to sustainably transform the quality of life every day for 80 percent of the world with its products and services, recently opened new facilities at its regional headquarters in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. The campus additions include a research and development laboratory and production facilities for Kemin’s animal nutrition and health business in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Over the past two decades, Kemin has grown its portfolio and market share in South Africa and the Sub-Saharan Africa region. To better support Kemin’s customers and the company’s expansion goals, the new “purpose-built” campus includes a state-of-the-art laboratory, offices and a new production plant with a dedicated Kemin Application Solutions area to build, pilot and demonstrate customer-tailored systems for optimal product application.

The new installations also include a new solar power array that generates 240 kilowatts, successfully powering the entire campus and a water-harvesting system that houses 220,000 litres of recycled water to supply the campus and self-sustaining gardens. All of these eco-friendly upgrades support Kemin’s global commitment to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

“Our new, enhanced facilities greatly support our long-term business goals and will uniquely position Kemin within Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Johan Opperman, President, Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health – Sub-Saharan Africa. “These new buildings and improved systems represent our commitment to locally manufacture products and solutions that are tailor-made for our customers and help serve the region sustainably .”
