What drives best on a dirt road? An Isuzu bakkie. That’s why many farmers have invested in Isuzu bakkies for years – to make their journey to the farm safer, more comfortable, and smooth. Morgan Isuzu Standerton was once again present at this year’s Val Farmers’ Day and showcased their various options of vehicles for farmers, because Isuzu is the perfect solution for them.

Not only does Isuzu offer the ideal workhorse – the Isuzu D-Max or X-Rider bakkie – but also a stylish and reliable SUV for the farmer’s wife: the MU-X.

The farmer’s Isuzu D-Max bakkie

The Isuzu bakkies are attractive, comfortable, reliable, and perform like a dream on the farm. These bakkies are available in three body styles: single cab, extended cab, and double cab – perfect for everyone on the farm. There are also various engine options and a choice between manual or automatic transmission to suit your needs.

The single cab comes in a standard model, and an L model. The standard version includes steel wheels with 205R 16C tires, a radio with CD player and Bluetooth connectivity, a USB power outlet, manual air conditioning, and cloth seat covers.

The extended cab is available as a standard model, as well as in L, LS, and LSE trims.

The LS model adds extra features such as a 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi connectivity, a USB power outlet in the rear cabin, a multifunction steering wheel wrapped in leather (which makes using and managing features easier), and an overhead console with map-reading lights and a spot for the farmer’s sunglasses.

Then there’s the double cab – often used as a family vehicle – available in L, LS, and LSE trims. The L is available in either 4×2 or 4×4 with an automatic transmission, or a 4×4 manual. The LS offers both engine choices: a 1,9-liter 4×2 manual and automatic, and a 3-liter 4×4 with both transmission options.

The new D-Max is much safer and comes with ABS brakes, emergency brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, hill-start assist, and downhill descent control.

The LSE trim adds even more features like a tire pressure monitor, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, keyless entry with push-start button, automatic wipers, and automatic LED headlights.

Mom’s Isuzu MU-X

The MU-X isn’t just a pretty vehicle – it’s spacious enough for farming families with many children, as it seats up to seven passengers. Isuzu offers the vehicle in both 4×4 and 4×2 automatic versions.

With traditional leaf-spring suspension at the rear and an excellent 4WD system (with low-range and an electronic diff lock) that pairs well with the 6-speed automatic gearbox, the MU-X handles off-road driving with ease.

Isuzu retained its proven 3,0-liter turbo diesel engine (140 kW and 450 Nm), slightly refined for improved fuel efficiency.

With the third-row seats up, the MU-X offers 311 litres of boot space, which expands to 1 119 litres when folded flat – plenty of space for packing.
