Deutz-Fahr is making a strong comeback to South Africa with Smith Power at the helm. When Smith Power secured the distribution rights for Deutz-Fahr in South Africa, it was about much more than simply adding another tractor brand to its portfolio.

It marked the return of a globally renowned name that has been synonymous with German engineering, reliability and performance for decades.

At this year’s Val Farmers Day, visitors not only had the opportunity to take a closer look at the Deutz-Fahr range, but to see the tractors in action during practical field demonstrations as well.

According to Dennis van der Merwe, National Sales Manager for Smith Power’s Agriculture and Construction Division, there is great excitement surrounding the brand’s return.

A range for every farmer

While the larger tractors ranging from 145 to 340 horsepower (108 to 254 kW) stole the spotlight last year, Smith Power deliberately focused on the smaller and mid-range models from 45 to 125 horsepower (34 to 93 kW) this year. These tractors are suited to a much wider variety of farming operations.

This approach reflects Smith Power’s goal of offering South African farmers a complete Deutz-Fahr solution. The international manufacturer’s range extends from compact utility and farm tractors to high-horsepower machines for large-scale grain production, with a strong focus on fuel efficiency, operator comfort and advanced technology.

Demonstrations showcase the range’s versatility

One of the biggest attractions at the Smith Power stand was the live demonstrations, where various Deutz-Fahr models were showcased under real working conditions. The demonstrations not only highlighted the tractors’ capabilities, but also demonstrated that the range offers solutions for farms of all sizes.

Deutz-Fahr 9340 TTV – Power for the biggest jobs

The 9340 TTV is Deutz-Fahr’s flagship model and is designed for farmers who require maximum performance. The tractor is powered by a 7,8-litre six-cylinder Deutz engine producing up to 336 horsepower (247 kW), with an impressive 1 372 Nm of torque.

The TTV (continuously variable/CVT) transmission ensures smooth power delivery and optimum fuel efficiency, while a hydraulic capacity of up to 210 ℓ/min and a rear lift capacity of 12 tonnes make it ideal for heavy tillage and large implements.

At Val Farmers Day, the 9340 TTV was demonstrated with a 19-tine Kverneland implement, where it proved its capabilities under demanding pulling conditions.

Deutz-Fahr 6155G – A versatile workhorse

The 6155G is aimed at farmers who need one tractor that is capable of handling a wide variety of tasks. With approximately 156 horsepower (115 kW), a 6,1-litre six-cylinder Deutz engine, robust mechanical design and excellent fuel efficiency, this model is well suited to tillage, planting, haymaking, feed handling and general farm operations.

This tractor’s simple, user-friendly layout also makes it easy to maintain, while the spacious cab enhances operator comfort during long working days.

During the demonstration, the 6155G pulled a 9-tine Kverneland implement, highlighting its versatility in medium to heavy field applications.

Deutz-Fahr 6180 – Stepping up to more horsepower

The 6180 bridges the gap between the mid-range and high-horsepower segments and has been developed for farmers who require more power without moving up to the largest tractor models.

Delivering approximately 180 horsepower (134 kW), advanced hydraulics, high lifting capacity and modern electronic control systems, the tractor is ideal for larger planters, spreaders and tillage equipment. The model also offers outstanding operator comfort, precision farming options and low fuel consumption for long days in the field.

This was the first time the 6180 had been showcased in a public demonstration in South Africa, making it one of the highlights of Smith Power’s exhibition.

Service remains crucial

Although the Deutz-Fahr brand is globally recognised for its German engineering and technology, Smith Power emphasises that local support is equally important.

Over more than five decades, the company has built an extensive dealer and service network across South Africa and says its goal is to bring Deutz-Fahr closer to farmers through reliable after-sales service, readily available parts and technical support.

Smith Power already represents several leading international agricultural and equipment brands and has an established network that further strengthens the introduction of Deutz-Fahr.

Val Farmers Day provided Smith Power with the ideal platform to reintroduce Deutz-Fahr to South African farmers and reaffirm the brand’s future in the local market.
