Rotary sieve (double drum and single drum)

A rotary sieve can improve the grading of your crop by one or even two grades, which in turn increases the price per tonne of the harvest and places the farmer in a more favourable marketing position. Farmers can process maize, soybeans, sunflower, wheat screenings and more through the rotary sieve. Van Zyl Staalwerke’s rotary sieve is powered by a 95 hp (70 kW) tractor. The double-drum model is particularly well-suited to soybeans.

The primary function of a rotary sieve is to remove unwanted material and smaller kernels from the harvested crop, thereby preventing grain from being downgraded at silos.

The smaller kernels that are screened out can then be used as animal feed. However, if this screening takes place at the silo, these screenings are lost, and the silo will also pay less for the crop.

Advantages of a rotary sieve:

  • Eliminates silo costs associated with screening grain to remove impurities.
  • Prevents deductions from the total crop weight due to unwanted material and small kernels.
  • Saves time by avoiding long queues after grading, where grain still needs to be screened. This ensures that transport vehicles return to the farm more quickly to move the next load.

Without durable trailers, transporting maize, soybeans, wheat or other crops is not feasible. Van Zyl Staalwerke offers a variety of trailers, including flatbed, mass (grain bin), and dual-wheel models to meet individual farmer requirements.

The company’s 10-tonne flatbed trailer has a load capacity of 10 000 kg. The rear axle comes standard with a hydraulic braking system, standard light coupling, and chevron markings. The mass trailer’s enclosed sides keep grain contained and prevent spillage, while the dual-wheel configuration allows for carrying heavier loads.
