On 19 June 2025, an impressive demonstration day was held at Aser Nel Boerdery between Hoopstad and Wesselsbron, hosted by Senwes in collaboration with John Deere.
The star of the day was the brand-new John Deere 9RX 830, a four-track tractor boasting overwhelming power and cutting-edge agricultural technology. It sent a clear message to modern South African farmers: technology is not a luxury — it is essential for sustainability, productivity, and profitability.
Who was behind the event?
The day was hosted at Aser Nel Boerdery, with owner Aser Nel personally involved. He said, “I had the privilege of having the tractor on my farm for a week, and I drove it myself. I have never seen this much power in a tractor before. With the technology and the improvements John Deere has made to the track design, this machine truly delivers its power to the ground.”
Highlights from the demo
Guests were welcomed with fresh coffee and rusks before the 9RX 830 showcased its impressive size, speed, and productivity by effortlessly pulling a 14-shank Agrico ripper at a depth of 800 mm through the soil. The tractor not only demonstrated its strength and SureDrive capability, but also how quickly it can complete demanding tasks — a key factor as farming seasons continue to shrink.
Onboard technology was also showcased: the e21™ PowerShift transmission with Efficiency Manager, integrated precision farming solutions, and the luxurious CommandView™ 4 Plus cab. Guests could climb aboard to see the large touchscreen in action, experience how the cab suspension smooths out uneven terrain, and observe how the easy access to service points simplifies maintenance.
Technical highlights of the 9RX 830
Powered by an 18-litre John Deere JD18 engine, the 9RX 830 delivers a nominal 830 hp (610 kW) and a maximum of 913 hp (680 kW). The engine meets Final Tier 4/Stage V emissions standards and reduces the need for diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) by focusing on exhaust gas recirculation. The tractor features four tracks, available in 762 mm or 914 mm widths, with track spacing options of 2,235 mm or 3,048 mm. This design balances ground pressure and traction perfectly, even on slopes — handling double the weight at the same speed as a 9RX 640.
The e21™ PowerShift transmission, with 21 forward and 11 reverse gears and Efficiency Manager speed control, is ideal for modern workloads. The hydraulic system delivers up to 168 litres per minute, supporting heavy implements at consistent working speeds.
The CommandView™ 4 Plus cab features a 32.5 cm screen, 15% more floor space, 20% better visibility, and a new suspension system with three degrees of freedom and four shock absorbers. Optional luxuries include footrests, a fridge, and a self-heating seat.
Deep tech integration
During the demo, it was highlighted how integrated technology enhances performance and reduces operating costs:
- Precision farming: JDLink, AutoTrac, and the new G5Plus screen ensure that the tractor is connected to the John Deere Operations Center, enabling constant monitoring of the tractor’s components and preventative maintenance to avoid costly downtime.
- Hydraulic efficiency: The 168 lpm hydraulic system maximizes the performance of trailing implements. An improved oil cooling system ensures operating temperatures remain optimal.
- Ease of maintenance: All standard service points (air filters, fuel filters) are accessible from ground level, thanks to smart design.
Why is John Deere a solid investment?
At the event, Stephan Gouws from John Deere said:
“A $2 billion investment was made in the John Deere factory in the USA to build this tractor. John Deere aims to make farmers the most sustainable and profitable in the industry by 2030. To achieve this, the company spends more annually on ag-tech research and development than all other American competitors combined. My advice to farmers attending today is: don’t fall behind on agricultural technology. It’s what keeps you productive and profitable on your farm — and once you fall behind, it’s nearly impossible to catch up.”
This statement reinforces the point that the 9RX 830 is not just a powerful machine, but part of a strategic investment in the future of farming — both technically and financially.

During the demo on 19 June 2025 at Aser Nel Boerdery between Hoopstad and Wesselsbron, the tractor showcased its strength in front of around 300 invited guests. This beast pulled a 14-shank Agrico ripper at a depth of around 800 mm without pushing the rev counter into the red.
Financial support and collaboration
Antois van der Westhuizen, Head of John Deere Financial, emphasized the long-standing partnership with Senwes: “This partnership ensures that farmers can access the latest technology with affordable financing.”
Since 1991, John Deere and Senwes have collaborated to offer financial solutions that allow farmers to integrate machines like the 9RX 830 into their operations in a cost-effective way.
Francois Redelinghuys, Senwes’ Marketing Head, explained how the day supports their “Leave New Tracks” campaign — “not just getting new equipment onto farms to increase productivity with new tech, but also to work more closely with farmers.”

Real-world testing
On Aser Nel’s farm, the tractor made a lasting impression. He said:
“I’ve never seen this much power in a tractor before … with the technology and adjustments John Deere made to the track design, this tractor really puts its power to the ground.” He also noted that the tractor reaches its maximum torque at low engine revolutions, reducing fuel consumption.
What does this mean for farmers?
The demonstration day between Hoopstad and Wesselsbron made it clear: the 9RX 830 isn’t just a machine — it’s a fully integrated system combining power, technology, and operator comfort to help modern South African farmers thrive. With a reliable manufacturing pedigree, top-tier performance, precision farming integration, and financing through Senwes, this tractor offers a clear edge for farmers ready to take the next step.
