The demand for reliable, hard-working utility vehicles remains strong in South Africa’s agricultural and contracting sectors. At NAMPO 2026, Mahindra South Africa showcased its answer to this demand with the launch of the new Bolero MaXX Pik-Up, a practical workhorse designed to handle heavy loads, challenging conditions and the everyday demands of business and farming operations.

Jaco Swart, Dealer Principal of Mahindra Bloemfontein, talked us through some of the key features of the new Bolero MaXX Pik-Up: “At this year’s NAMPO, we are unveiling the new Bolero MaXX Pik-Up. It is available as a 1,7-tonne pickup vehicle and comes standard with air conditioning. One of its standout features is its impressive payload capacity of up to 1,7 tonnes. The vehicle delivers 60 kW of power and 220 Nm of torque.”

He added that Mahindra specifically designed the vehicle with hardworking industries in mind: “We know that South African farmers and contractors need vehicles that can work long hours, carry heavy loads and remain dependable day after day. The Bolero MaXX Pik-Up was developed to offer exactly that kind of reliability and durability.”

Engineered for versatility and heavy loads

The Bolero MaXX Pik-Up is ideally suited for contractors and farmers. It is available with a large load bin (a tipper load bin is under study for the local market) and will be offered in various carrying capacities ranging from 1,3 tonnes to 1,7 tonnes.

With carrying capacities ranging from 1,3 to 1,7 tonnes, the new Bolero MaXX Pik-Up is built to tackle heavy-duty tasks with confidence.

According to Jaco, versatility played a major role in the vehicle’s development: “Not every customer uses a vehicle in the same way. Some need it for agriculture, others for construction, deliveries or contracting work. That is why we wanted to offer different carrying capacities and practical load body options that can adapt to different industries.”

Vehicles in the Bolero range have enjoyed strong popularity in South Africa over the years.

Jaco explained: “The Bolero’s history in South Africa dates to 2004, and it has evolved significantly over time. We are proud to introduce this latest model because we believe it fills an important need in the market, particularly for contractors and agricultural businesses.”

Mahindra South Africa has been operating in South Africa since 2004 and offers a wide range of commercial and agricultural products. “We are proud to have established ourselves among the country’s top ten bakkie brands over the past few years. We believe the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up will further strengthen our already comprehensive product offering,” said Jaco.

Proven performance under local conditions

This vehicle has undergone extensive testing under South African conditions, including high-temperature testing in the Upington region. It has also travelled extensively through challenging routes, including the mountain passes between Durban and Bloemfontein, with testing operations based in Bloemfontein.

“Mahindra South Africa wanted to ensure that this vehicle could handle real South African conditions before bringing it to market,” Jaco explained. “The testing included extreme heat, steep gradients and heavy-load applications to make sure customers can rely on the vehicle in demanding environments.”

Designed for demanding South African conditions, the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up offers impressive load-carrying capacity, durability and versatility for agricultural and contracting applications.

These tests confirmed the vehicle’s suitability for carrying heavy loads under demanding conditions. One of the greatest advantages of the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up is its carrying capacity. It also features a popular tyre size, a rugged appearance and durable components that make it exceptionally well-suited to South African operating conditions.

Jaco believes affordability and practicality will also contribute to the vehicle’s appeal: “Customers are looking for value for money, especially in industries where vehicles work hard every day. The Bolero MaXX Pik-Up offers a practical solution with strong load-carrying ability, while remaining economical to operate and maintain.”

The Bolero MaXX Pik-Up will be available soon through Mahindra’s dealer network. With more than 100 dealerships across South Africa, customers will be able to place orders and receive support from their nearest Mahindra dealer as soon as the vehicle becomes available.

“We are excited to bring the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up to the South African market,” Jaco concluded. “We believe it will become a trusted partner for many businesses and farming operations across the country.”
