Pecanwood Golf and Country Club has taken delivery of 40 brand-new Tara Spirit Pro golf carts, supplied by Smith Power. The fleet arrived recently, and already the difference is being felt across the course.
“We were long overdue for an upgrade,” says William van Mierlo, Golf Director at Pecanwood. “Our previous carts were well beyond their sell-by date. The new Tara models have uplifted the entire golfing experience here.”
The carts are provided on a five-year rent-to-own basis, ensuring the club has a modern, reliable fleet while keeping costs manageable.

Pecanwood has acquired 40 new Tara Spirit Pro golf carts.
Features that make a difference
The Tara Spirit Pro carts aren’t simply about getting from tee to green, they’re designed to make every round of golf more enjoyable. Each cart comes standard with:
- A windshield and rear-view mirror
- A ball washer
- A back cover, especially handy when rain rolls in
“The feedback from members and visitors has been excellent,” William says. “Everyone who’s come here has shown huge interest in the carts, and I think it’s even boosted sales for Smith Power from our side.”

- The Tara Spirit Pro even has a special space for your cooler box.
Backed by service and support
For William, after-sales service is just as important as the carts themselves. “You need an operational fleet that gives the wow factor, but also a company that can assist immediately if there’s an issue,” he explains.
Smith Power has built its reputation on exactly that. Mark Chittenden, General Manager for Smith Power’s Turf and Utility Division, highlights the partnership: “We’re fortunate that William and his team opted for the Tara Spirit Pro carts. He’s always supported Smith Power Equipment, and the return on investment with these carts made them the obvious choice.”
A year of success across South Africa
It’s been only a year since Smith Power launched the Tara Spirit Pro, and the uptake has been remarkable. “We’ve delivered to courses all over South Africa, from the Western Cape right up to White River in Mpumalanga,” Mark says. “The golfing community has accepted this product so well.”

What makes the Spirit Pro so appealing?
- An eight-year warranty on the lithium battery
- A four-year warranty on key components
- A two-year warranty on suspension and other parts
- A powerful 105 amp lithium battery, delivering three to four rounds of golf per charge
“This is our entry-level product, but it gives golfers everything they need,” Mark explains. “And beyond affordability, we ensure backup support, staff training and keeping carts maintained to standard for as long as they’re on site.”

Meeting modern demands
Andrew Neil, Brand Manager for Tara and Evolution Electric Vehicles, puts the Spirit Pro into perspective: “This unit is aimed at fleet operators. For years, traditional products weren’t meeting local requirements. Operating expenses were rising, and the ability to generate income from golf cart fleets was diminishing every year. The Spirit Pro was designed to change that.”
For Pecanwood, the new fleet is more than just a set of carts; it’s a statement about the club’s commitment to quality and experience. For Smith Power and Tara, it’s another milestone in a year of growth and acceptance across South Africa’s golfing community.
As Mark sums it up: “We’re celebrating another successful delivery, and we’re proud to see the Spirit Pro making such an impact.”
