At this year’s NAMPO Cape, Smith Power Equipment once again demonstrated why they’ve been a trusted name in South Africa for nearly 50 years. With an impressive range of brands and products serving both the agricultural and construction sectors, they transformed their stand into a one-stop destination for farmers, contractors, and landscapers.
“Smith Power Equipment has been active in South Africa for about 50 years,” explains Dennis van der Merwe, National Sales Manager for Kubota, who is also responsible for both the agriculture and construction divisions.
“We cover everything from golf course equipment and quad bikes to powerful tractors and mini-loaders.”

Green energy and landscaping
On one side, Smith Power showcased the EGO Power+ range, a brand committed to cleaner energy use in landscaping. The range includes self-propelled lawn mowers, blowers, edge trimmers, chainsaws, and hedge trimmers.
“EGO is mainly for the landscaping guys,” says Dennis. “It’s quiet, powerful, and ideal for those looking for environmentally friendly solutions.”

Agriculture and construction
For farmers and contractors, Kubota and Deutz-Fahr tractors were on display. Kubota’s range starts at a compact 18 hp and goes up to 135 hp, ideal for vineyards and orchards. For larger agricultural needs, Smith Power offers the German Deutz-Fahr range, going up to 340 hp.
“We recently opened a manufacturing facility in Klapmuts,” Dennis shares. “This brings us closer to our customers in the Cape, where 70% of our products are used in the fruit and vineyard industry.”
On the construction side, Smith Power displayed their range of mini-loaders, including 1,7-ton, 3-ton, 5-ton, and 8-ton machines – suitable for precise work in confined spaces.
One example is the Kubota L47, which replaces the popular L45. This sought-after mini-TLB is a modular tractor that can function like a farm tractor with hydrostatic drive. It is also a fully equipped TLB with a loader bucket in front and a backhoe at the rear.

Frank Neils, Managing Director of PERFECT, explains why their products are perfect for South African farmers.
PERFECT delivers precision for orchards and vineyards
Smith Power is also the distributor of PERFECT – from Wamel B.V., a Dutch manufacturer of mowers and scrapers. Frank Neils, the Managing Director of PERFECT, was personally present at NAMPO Cape.
“We’ve been manufacturing this equipment for over 75 years,” says Frank. “What sets us apart is that we offer the right product for every farmer globally, whether in South Africa, the Netherlands, or Canada.”
The PERFECT machines are built tough for South African soil conditions and are available in various working widths. They are especially popular in orchards and vineyards, and the after-sales service is excellent, with parts available even for machines that are decades old.
Smith Power and PERFECT have been working together for six years, and the partnership has already borne fruit. This year, a new range of maintenance equipment for cross-row maintenance and soil cultivation was launched, and according to Frank, plans are already in place for a lighter, more affordable range specifically for vineyards in 2026.
NAMPO Cape 2025 was more than just an exhibition for Smith Power – it was an opportunity to strengthen relationships, share new solutions, and show that they understand what farmers and contractors really need: reliable equipment, strong support, and a partner who grows with them.
