ISUZU understands farmers across South Africa in a way that few other manufacturers do. This is why the 2026 D-MAX line is more than just another addition to the line-up. Guided by a simple principle, “Ready to Outlast”, the manufacturer listened to farmers and took an already trusted vehicle and made it even better.

At NAMPO Cape, Isuzu had every vehicle a farmer needs to take on the harsh conditions of South Africa. Kevin Fouché, Product Planning Executive for ISUZU, explained that the farming community will always be important to ISUZU.

“We take a lot of input from farmers to make these vehicles what they need to be. Suspension setups, for example, are important because farmers aren’t just using these vehicles on roads or even dirt roads. They’re going off-road most of the time.”

He pointed out that ISUZU builds its vehicles in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha). Its vehicles are tested to make sure that each ISUZU is ready for South African conditions. Among the vehicles showcased at NAMPO Cape, three drew the attention of visitors to the stand.

These were the D-Max 3.0, the MU-X, and the all-wheel drive Overlander camping truck.

The new D-Max line of vehicles has upgraded front grilles, lights, and more that were made with input directly from farmers.

D-Max is meant for South African farmers

With over 33 different variants, Fouché explains that these are ‘bakkies’ designed for the South African market from the ground up. The 2026 model has been updated with new front-end grilles, new wheels, new interiors and improved handling, and it offers a better ride.

Key changes have been made to the 1,9-litre RZ4E engines in the D-Max line, which produce 110 kW and 350 Nm. Along with this power boost, important mechanical upgrades have been made to ensure the engines are as reliable as possible. These upgrades include a new high-pressure common-rail fuel injection system, a reshaped combustion chamber and recalibrated engine control units.

Of course, the biggest upgrades have been made to the top-end 3.0-litre Ddi, which now delivers 140 kW and 450 Nm. Available across 10 different models, the range proves that ISUZU listens to its customers by offering both 4×4 and 4×2 models.

“South African vehicles are built with a high degree of localisation, based on feedback from the farming community and other customers. From thicker-gauge steel load boxes to adapted suspension and engine tuning, we build local conditions into our vehicles,” Kevin added.

Camper vans and utility vehicles perfect for all explorers

Along with the upgraded D-Max line of vehicles, ISUZU also showcased several of its more specialised vehicles. These include its seven-seat SUV, the MU-X, a spacious vehicle that offers room for families or adventurers who need something a bit different.

The MU-X models also include the strong 1,9 litre and 3,0-litre engines that make the D-Max line so reliable. This means that they are perfect from farm to city, capable of handling farm roads as easily as tarred roads in any city.

While the MU-X prepares you for the city, suburbs or farm roads, the ISUZU Overlanders will take you into the wildest places Africa has to offer. At the NAMPO Cape stand this year, one of the most popular vehicles was the NPS300 with rooftop access.

Kevin explained that “… we offer up to 58 different commercial vehicles, so it’s impossible to bring them all to the show. But today we’re showcasing the NPS 300 camper van to demonstrate what can be done with an Isuzu truck.”
