Uli Pelser decided to start his own business in 2010 after having worked for many years in the parts industry for commercial vehicles. “I reached a point where I felt I could offer better service at a better price to my customers if I were in control of the business,” explains Uli. In 2011, Budget Part was established. With the expansion beyond South Africa’s borders, the decision was made to change the business name to Budget Part Africa.
“The first few years were tough, as with any business. I bought a Ford Bantam bakkie with 16 000 kilometres on it, and did everything myself. This year, we decided it was time to retire the bakkie, almost 600 000 kilometres later.”
Budget Part Africa prides itself on offering transparency regarding parts prices to its customers. They provide a comprehensive service to source, import, and deliver parts to their customers. “There are sometimes parts that are difficult to obtain in South Africa because the large companies do not consider it worthwhile to import them. We specialise in getting those hard-to-find parts and supplying them to our customers at an affordable price.”
Budget Part Africa serves companies in the commercial transport industry such as trucks and buses. They also supply parts to companies with earthmoving equipment and, of course, to the agricultural industry. “Many farmers have realised that we provide good service for parts for their trucks, and have started to inquire about parts for their tractors and other agricultural equipment. It was just the natural next step to expand the business into the agricultural industry,” says Uli.
When a specific part is unavailable or would be too expensive to import, Budget Part Africa can also have that particular part manufactured. “We work with engineers and manufacturers who can make rare parts for us, thus ensuring we continue to provide the best service to our customers.”
Budget Part Africa not only provides excellent service throughout South Africa, but also expands to cover other countries in Southern Africa.
“Our formula works. Our customers want good quality parts at a fair price as quickly as possible. Our focus on price transparency and customer service has led to our growth over the past fourteen years, allowing us to hire four people for our team,” says Uli.
