To prevent sharp rocks from pressing into the pipe and causing stress cracks, the pipe is installed on a 100 mm baseline of fine, uniform bedding material, and backfill is kept completely rock-free for up to 300 mm above the pipe.
Prevent clogging: For subsoil drainage, siltation is the primary threat. The stone aggregates surrounding the pipe can be wrapped with a non-woven geotextile filter fabric like Guntex to let water filter through while permanently keeping fine soil out.
Shield from UV: Prolonged sun exposure can break down polymer chains, making pipes brittle. If stored above ground for over 12 months, pipes should be covered with a breathable, light tarpaulin.
The correct welds: For pressurised lines, weak “cold-welds” can be avoided by scraping away surface oxidation before butt-fusion or electrofusion welding. To eliminate joint-rupturing caused by sudden changes in fluid velocity, the installation of a slow-closing valve and variable-frequency drives (VFDs) on pumps will help.
