At Pleroma, they farm under the Hartebeespoort Dam water scheme. The canal runs from the Hartebeespoort Dam to the Rooikoppies Dam, a distance of about 54 km.
Pleroma has to apply every Thursday for the water they will need the following week.
“Water is life. Without water you can’t farm, and it becomes a problem. That’s why we switched to center pivots – they are more effective and you can irrigate day and night,” says Pieter du Preez.
