Algar is well known for its livestock handling equipment, specifically designed to make the handling process safer and more comfortable for both farmers and animals. The company has also recently added its drone trailer to its product range.

This year at NAMPO, Algar decided to expand some of its most popular product lines to offer farmers more affordable options while still delivering practical value.

Bielie Junior

One of Algar’s most popular products is the Bielie Box, a versatile cattle handling crate designed to allow farmers to handle individual animals safely, efficiently, and with minimal stress.

The crate features multiple access points and an integrated neck clamp system, providing full access to the animal when required.

Algar has now introduced the smaller, more mechanical Bielie Junior to the market.

Charlotte Esterhuizen of Algar explained at NAMPO that the company is very excited about this new product. Like the original Bielie Box, the Bielie Junior is equipped with a neck clamp, but in this case the locking mechanism is operated manually. The Bielie Junior forms part of Algar’s more affordable product range.

Like Algar’s other neck clamps, the Bielie Junior’s gate locks automatically once the animal applies pressure. The forcing pen is also part of the Bielie Junior range, and farmers can add as many handling panels as needed to suit their livestock operation.

A Multi-Purpose Algar Trailer

Japie Pretorius of Algar explains that the company is already well known for its trailers, particularly the drone trailer.

“Everyone sells trailers, but the difference is that with us, you only buy one platform, and the attachments are what change,” he says.

By purchasing a single trailer platform, farmers can fit different attachments depending on their needs. This means the trailer can quickly be converted into a cattle trailer by fitting cattle rails, a sheep trailer by fitting sheep rails, or even a drone trailer.

“A trailer rental business can buy one platform and satisfy three different customers with a single unit,” Japie explains.

Algar can also build drone support structures for grain carts, livestock trailers, grain wagons, farm trailers, and similar equipment. The structure can be removed when not needed. In other words, during harvest season you can use your grain cart for harvesting, and during the rest of the year convert it into a drone trailer.

These trailers are available in various lengths, including 2,7 m, 4,2 m, and 6 m models.

Charlotte explains that if the 6 m drone trailer is too large for a farmer’s operation, Algar now also offers 2,7 m and 4,2 m versions. The trailer features pull-out drawers, with each drawer capable of carrying up to 250 kg. This provides more than enough space for generators, batteries, charging stations, drones, and even a freshwater tank for washing hands.

The trailer also comes equipped with a mixing station and can be packed up quickly and easily before moving to the next field for spraying or fertiliser application.

With Algar, you can purchase a single trailer platform and convert it into various trailer configurations.

A Trailer for Hunters

Hunting is a way of life for many South Africans, and if you have ever wondered how to transport your game meat safely back home, Algar has a solution.

The compact Toktokkie trailer is available with an insulated cooler compartment on the inside, allowing hunters to transport meat safely after a hunt.The trailer is lighter than a conventional trailer and, according to Japie, tows exceptionally well.

A Permanent Livestock Handling Solution

Algar assists farmers with every aspect of livestock handling, and Charlotte explains that the company is also passionate about helping farmers establish permanent livestock handling facilities and feedlots.

“We can build the handling facility in the shape and size you need and even install gates and additional livestock handling equipment,” she says.
