The Vlakte Bonsmara Study Group successfully hosted its 20th production auction on 11 June 2026 at Doornpan Farm near Roedtan, Limpopo. The auction attracted an impressive turnout and achieved prices that exceeded market expectations.

Interest in the offering was evident from early in the day, and buyers did not disappoint. The bulls achieved a strong average price of R70 000, while four top bulls each sold for R100 000 – clear proof of the quality animals and superior genetics on offer.

According to Kobus du Toit, Chairman of the Vlakte Bonsmara Study Group, the day exceeded all expectations: “We are standing here at the end of our 20th production auction, and what an incredible day it has been! We had an outstanding turnout, and the animals sold exceptionally well.”

The female animals performed particularly well and sold well above market expectations, while the slaughter cattle and young cattle offerings also attracted strong interest and achieved excellent prices. This once again confirms the confidence buyers have in the animals and breeding standards of the Vlakte Group.

Kobus emphasised that the success of the day would not have been possible without the support of all role players:

Looking ahead: Bull auction already on the calendar

The study group is not resting on its laurels and is already inviting interested buyers to their next major event. The 17th bull auction will take place on 16 October 2026, where approximately 50 bulls and around 250 female animals, including selected stud females, will be offered.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone on the day,” Kobus said.
