The Africa Agri Tech Conference & Expo (AAT), taking place from 18-20 March 2025 at the CSIR Convention Centre in Pretoria, offers farmers the knowledge they need to thrive in this challenging landscape.

One of the most exciting discussions of the day will come from John Sanei, a renowned futures strategist based in Dubai. In The Human AI Symphony, Sanei will dive into the impact of artificial intelligence on agriculture. “Many farmers are grappling with the balance between AI and human decision-making. One can’t replace the other, and AI isn’t here to take over farming. But it can make existing systems more efficient and truly advance food production and profitability in ways never possible before.”
The same funding models that birthed Google and Uber will not feed the world or save it. The United States’ Mark Brooks, Venture Partner at LongLeaf Studios, and Entrepreneur in Residence at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, will address this issue in his talk, Funding 2040 and Beyond: The Future of Bio-Intelligence. “The question isn’t whether agriculture will evolve, but whether investors will evolve to fund it, or let the opportunities of our time pass by. We need capital models that align with the profile of AgriTech innovation – key to a food secure future, says Brooks.
With years of experience in agricultural investment, Brooks will unpack funding solutions that will finance the next generation of agriculture.
A key highlight of Day 3 will be the panel discussion, Trading Smarter for Economic Growth, which will examine how South Africa can position itself as a strong trading partner despite increasing global protectionism. Experts on the panel will discuss strategies for diversifying markets, making the best of trade agreements, and ensuring competitiveness in international markets.
“This is particularly relevant for farmers who export produce or are considering expanding beyond South African borders. If we want South African agriculture to thrive, we need to think beyond our own fields,” says Hattingh. “It’s about forming partnerships, strengthening trade relationships, and making our produce more attractive to global buyers.”
