Changes at Bredasdorp Park

According to Henk Aggenbach, chairman of the Bredasdorp Park Board, many changes have been made to Bredasdorp Park in the past two years. Not only have they added 72 additional exhibition spaces and another 4ha of visitor parking on the Park, but the old horse stables have also been converted into the BKB Livestock Centre where the BKB Merino Classic and the Overberg Youth Show will take place.

The Water Wise Centre, where various methods of soilless production such as hydroponics and aquaponics are demonstrated, has also moved to a new, larger home on Bredasdorp Park. It is a working hydroponic enterprise and training facilities in collaboration with the University of Stellenbosch.

The Santam Auditorium has been converted into two separate venues. The Nation in Conversation Sessions will take place on the top floor while the NAMPO Cape beauty salon will be in the bottom venue.

The Engen 4×4 track was also expanded in 2021 to include an extreme 4×4 section. Visitors will see the latest 4×4 methods from different factories in action under the able guidance of Terrain Tamers.

Overberg floral beauty

Every year, visitors to NAMPO Cape are amazed at the impressive Nedbank flower arranging exhibition led by Marjolijn Malan. This year is no exception, with the theme Networking with Nature, promise to once again be a spectacle of floral splendour.

This year there is an added feast of flowers during NAMPO Cape with the Elim Fynbos exhibition in the Shell building. The variety and rare species of the Elim region will be depicted in a natural way in this exhibition. The Elim Overseer’s Board is responsible for this exhibition and the tea garden where visitors can indulge in typical Overberg delicacies.

Community involvement

NAMPO Cape provides the opportunity for local schools and non-governmental organizations to raise funds. All food stalls are either run by such organisations themselves or private companies that run food stalls have to donate a portion of their profit to such an organisation.

Some of the food stalls where visitors will be able to quench their hunger and thirst include:

  • The Hollard Bistro in the ABSA building is operated by Huis Klippedrift
  • The BKB tea garden is operated by Suideroord Tehuis.
  • SRS Kiosk near the new BKB Livestock Centre is operated by Bredasdorp High School.
  • The Elim Board of Supervisors operates the Tea Garden in the Shell Building.
  • The Standard Bank Steakhouse is operated by Rûens College.
  • De Heide Primary School and Zoetendal Academy are also new schools joining the catering on offer during NAMPO Cape.

Youth and agriculture

NAMPO Cape believes in the future of agriculture and therefore wants to do more to involve the youth in agriculture. NAMPO Cape would like to invite learners to take part in the Overberg Regional Youth Show on Saturday 17 September in the new BKB Livestock Centre. Learners with Agriculture as a school subject and an interest in Agriculture as a profession are invited to participate in the NAMPO Cape Schools Program which is presented in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Agriculture. The program includes, among others, vertical production systems, plant and soil research trials, animal production, grain marketing and careers in agriculture.

For the ladies

In addition to an interesting women’s program with Jannie Moolman, Sonja de Beer, Elsabe Albrecht and Rico Summers, the ladies can also look forward to being spoiled from head to toe in the NAMPO Cape beauty salon on the ground floor of the Santam Auditorium.

Sponsors are the anchors

An event like NAMPO Cape cannot take place without the support of sponsors. Chrystal van Wyk, Business Manager of the Bredasdorp Park says they are privileged to have sponsors such as Overberg Agri, BKB, Santam Agriculture, Total Energies, ABSA and PlaasMedia back on board for NAMPO Cape 2022. She is also very excited about new sponsorships from among others Toyota SA, Standard Bank, Shell, SAB IN-Bev, and the Western Cape Department of Agriculture.

According to Toit Wessels, Assistant Manager, Go SA Marketing, 2019 exhibitors get preference in the allocation of exhibition spaces. There is a waiting list of new exhibitors that can only be accommodated with cancellations.
