Bredasdorp is getting ready for the annual NAMPO Cape Expo, which this year will be presented from 13-16 September 2023 by Grain SA and Bredasdorp Park NPC at Bredasdorp Park. According to Henk Aggenbach, chairman of the Bredasdorp Park Board, 60 additional exhibition spaces have been added in the Voermol Hall. Visitors and exhibitors can also look forward to a new food stall and coffee stall in the Voermol Hall. The breed exhibitions, which were previously accommodated in the Voermol Hall, will this year be accommodated in a livestock tent, behind the Voermol and BKB Halls. There are also 10 new stands for outside exhibitors next to the Shell Hall.

In addition to the existing eateries and food stalls, there are also new food stalls being added, which means that visitors have even more of a choice of where to eat and quench their thirst.

2023 Merino Open

The Merino Open is presented by Region 9 of Merino SA on 14 and 15 September in the BKB Livestock Centre. It is open to all Merino stud, as well as herd breeders. According to DeWe Giliomee, one of the organizers, this will be an innovative, prestigious event with interesting prizes and opportunities for spectator participation.

Green Energy Revolution

The theme for NAMPO Cape 2023 is Green Energy Revolution and a variety of the latest technology in the green energy sector will be on display to give visitors the opportunity to weigh up the various options available.

Museum Tent

Another new attraction at NAMPO Cape 2023 is a dedicated museum tent where 19 of the Western Cape museums will have exhibitions. Visitors will be able to see how things were done in the Days Gone By with various demonstrations such as bread baking etc.

Exceptional floral splendour

NAMPO Cape is known for its exceptional floral splendour. Marjolijn Malan’s impressive flower arrangements will certainly not disappoint. The theme for this year’s flower spectacle is “Where two oceans meet in the octopus’s garden” and Marjolijn will depict the marine life with flowers. Visitors will also once again have the opportunity to vote for the arrangement of their choice. The Shell Hall will also be filled again with a feast of the Overberg’s fynbos.

Agriculture for the future

The future of agriculture is very high on the agenda for NAMPO Cape 2023. The NAMPO Cape Schools Program launched in 2022 has grown into an opportunity for 300 learners from schools that offer agriculture as a subject. Here the learners can supplement what they learn in the classroom with practical experiences that support the curriculum.

The annual Overberg Regional Youth Show takes place on Saturday, September 16. Learners can compete  in the following classes: Dairy cattle, beef cattle, meat sheep, wool sheep, Angora goat, dairy goat, meat goat, poultry, horse, rabbit, pigeon, culinary art and dairy preparation. Boys and girls up to 17 years of age participate in three age groups: junior-junior (5 to 9 years), junior (10 to 13 years) and senior (14 to 17 years).

For the fairer sex

The women’s program with Mynhardt Joubert, Willem Botha and Jak de Priester promises to be a feast of tempting food, beauty secrets and charming music. The NAMPO Kaap walk-in beauty salon was a big hit in 2022 and will once again offer an opportunity where women can relax and enjoy the treatment of their choice while the men enjoy the latest agricultural technology.
