Alnet, a company that has been serving its clients for over 60 years with shade nets, agricultural nets, ground covers, storm nets, and more recently, biodegradable rope, made a strong appearance again at this year’s NAMPO Cape.
“We were the first company to start with shade netting,” says Ernst Oosthuizen, who has been Alnet’s Agricultural Sales Manager for the past 25 years.
“We are a very proud company and operate with great integrity. We take a proactive approach and are leaders in the field. We also offer high-quality products that are exported.”
Alnet is known for supplying affordable, durable products. Their shade netting is designed to give your plants the best chance to grow strong and healthy. Everything from the amount of light allowed through, to the colour of the net, plays a role.
Alnet’s agricultural nets come in a range of densities — from 20% to 95%, indicating the percentage of sunlight blocked by the net.
The 80% shade nets are typically used for flowers and foliage while the 20% shade nets are ideal for crops like citrus trees and orchards, and are also commonly used in large construction projects.
The 40% shade nets are available in black, white, grey, and green.
Alnet’s shade netting allows you to control the amount of sunlight your plants receive, while also managing temperature and airflow under the net.

The Alnet NAMPO Cape team was ready to tell visitors more about their products.
Alnet’s Sunblock range offers 85% to 80% shade and is mainly used for carports, patios, and other domestic projects. It’s a lightweight shade net that performs well outdoors and is built to last.
Alnet has also developed a new biodegradable rope. A British company approached Alnet to develop and fund the project.
“The goal is to create a rope that dissolves after two to three years,” explains Ernst. “It’s specifically designed for the fishing industry, where nets break down to prevent turtles and other sea life from getting entangled. We are proud to have been chosen for this project.”
