Limagrain is a seed company owned and operated by farmers, for farmers. In their sixty years of existence, they have already positioned themselves as a world-class player, and now they aim to establish themselves as a prominent South African seed company.

At NAMPO 2025, they showed their world-class maize cultivars to farmers.

Fanie Yssel, Technical Manager of Limagrain, explains that they offer a complete package of white and yellow maize cultivars specifically developed for South African farmers. Three of their top white maize cultivars are LG31.747BR, its successor LG31.753BR, and LG31.755BR.

These cultivars are excellent for dryland and water table maize, are strongly prolific (multi-cob), and have very good grain quality.

The LG31.747BR contains Roundup Ready 2 and YieldGard 2. It is a new, medium-maturity cultivar with exceptional yield potential, excellent standability, and good disease tolerance.

The LG31.753BR is a brand-new medium-maturity white hybrid adapted to all growing regions with outstanding agronomic traits.

LG31.755BR is also a brand-new, late-maturing cultivar, with exceptional performance in the Western water table and drier areas, and good prolificacy. The grain quality of this cultivar is exceptional.

On the yellow maize side, Limagrain has their reliable KKS8410 platform, which according to Fanie is still the leading silage maize under irrigation. KKS8410 has a very good plant-to-grain ratio, delivering excellent silage quality.

They have also recently introduced their new, faster yellow maize LG31.664BR, intended for the Eastern and Western production regions. This cultivar delivers excellent yield and standability and also dries down quickly.

Limagrain’s flagship yellow maize is the LG31.752BR, which was the top maize in the GrainSA trials over the past year.

Jacques Breytenbach, Operational Manager of Limagrain South Africa, says that Limagrain has been delivering good yields for farmers for sixty years. The company was founded in France in 1965 and today is owned by 1 300 farmers in a cooperative.

“Limagrain is here to stay. We already have sixty years behind us and plan to serve farmers for another sixty. Limagrain grows every year by introducing new varieties, especially for maize and soya beans. We’re already a major player in the international market and are well on our way to becoming a major player in the South African market,” Jacques says proudly.
