Bayer Crop Science South Africa is introducing FLiPPER®, a biological, contact insecticide designed to help South African growers manage key pests while meeting increasingly strict residue and export requirements.
•Derived from natural fatty acids (olive oil-based)
•Designed to work in harmony with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes
•Supports more sustainable farming practices with minimal environmental impact
KEY VALUE PROPOSITION FOR FARMERS
FLiPPER® gives growers a practical edge as they navigate tougher pest pressure, tighter compliance demands and rising expectations from premium markets.
Residue-free advantage: It removes residue concerns from the equation and helps growers protect access to high-value export markets. Because it is exempt from EU MRL testing, it offers a strong compliance advantage for producers targeting demanding international customers.
Application flexibility: With a zero pre-harvest interval, FLiPPER® gives growers the freedom to spray right up to harvest without disrupting picking schedules. That flexibility is especially valuable when pest pressure shifts quickly and timing becomes critical.
Effective pest control: As a contact insecticide, FLiPPER® acts directly on the pest, interfering with vital biological processes, cutting feeding activity and leading to mortality. The result is straightforward, effective control where growers need it most.
Resistance management support: FLiPPER® also strengthens long-term resistance management. With no known resistance or cross-resistance, it is well positioned for use in programmes designed to protect efficacy over time and support more sustainable pest control strategies.
Low environmental impact: Its low-risk profile adds to that appeal. FLiPPER® is gentle on people, crops, beneficial insects and pollinators, making it a strong fit for Integrated Pest Management programmes and broader regenerative agriculture goals.
USE ON THESE CROPS
FLiPPER® is registered for use on several high-value crops in South Africa, including citrus, table grapes and blueberries. The biological insecticide is designed to target key pests affecting these crops, such as citrus thrips, western flower thrips and aphids.
AVAILABILITY
FLiPPER® enables South African growers to “flip pest pressure into performance”, combining effective pest control with the flexibility and compliance required to compete in premium local and global markets.
The launch annoucement comes at a time when growers are facing increasing pressure to meet both production and market demands. Across the industry, demand for residue-free produce is growing, particularly in export-driven sectors where compliance with strict market requirements, especially in the European Union, is becoming more important. At the same time, farmers are looking for more sustainable, biologically based crop protection solutions that can help address resistance concerns while reducing environmental impact.
This announcement will be followed by a series of launch events hosted by Bayer in key production regions in the coming months, creating opportunities for growers and industry stakeholders to connect directly with our team of experts, the product and its role in modern pest management.
FLiPPER® will also feature at major industry gatherings in the months ahead, including the South African Table Grape Conference hosted by SASEV and SATI on 5–6 August, as well as the CRI Symposium for the citrus industry from 23–26 August.
