Pannar once again demonstrated its commitment to South African maize farmers as a Platinum sponsor of the Val Farmers’ Day.

With a welcoming stall and delicious coffee and cookies, Pannar invited farmers to exchange knowledge and gain insights into their leading PowerCore™ white and yellow maize hybrids.

According to Joe Payne, Pannar’s Regional Manager for the Eastern region and Limpopo, participating in events like the Val Farmers’ Day is not merely an opportunity for visibility and showcasing our products, but a vital way to stay close to farmers and truly engage with their needs.

“We see these opportunities as interactive platforms where we can meet farmers and show them first-hand, what we are working on,” he says.

PowerCore™ in the spotlight

The day focused on Pannar’s PowerCore™ range, which includes white and yellow maize hybrids offering advanced genetic resistance and excellent yield potential. While not a new product launch, Joe emphasised that innovative genetic development of these hybrids is ongoing.

“We are constantly working to provide farmers with top-class products that are adapted to the challenging local conditions,” he explained.

PowerCore™ technology was developed specifically to protect maize crops from some of the most significant threats in the field, including certain insect pests and common weeds.

Pannar describes the PowerCore™ technology on its website as a unique stack of three Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) proteins that together control a wide spectrum of leaf-feeding pests, such as the African maize stalk borer (Busseola fusca) and the Chilo borer (Chilo partellus).

This is further combined with glyphosate tolerance for improved weed control, offering farmers greater production security and ease of management.

Thorough testing, proven performance

“Farmers are not people who want to experiment,” says Joe. This philosophy forms the foundation of Pannar’s product development. Every cultivar released to the market is rigorously tested and evaluated under local conditions before it is made available. Farmers can trust that the seed has already proven to be resilient, high-yielding, and disease-tolerant.

Joe describes the development of new seed as the “heartbeat” of the company. Pannar’s breeding programs aim to always stay one step ahead and to develop cultivars specifically suited to the conditions under which South African farmers operate. Key target traits include high yield potential, strong agronomic characteristics, and resistance to a range of threats to the crops.

According to Joe Payne, Val Farmers’ Day and similar events are excellent opportunities for Pannar to share information with farmers and give back to its customer base. That is why Pannar was also a Platinum sponsor of the day.

True to their promise

Pannar’s participation in the Val Farmers’ Day clearly demonstrated that their commitment to farmers’ succq ess goes beyond just supplying seed. By showcasing their PowerCore™ range and engaging with farmers about the latest genetic advancements, they reaffirm their role as a partner that helps ensure farm profitability.

With products that offer pest protection, improved weed control, and have been thoroughly tested and proven under local conditions, Pannar continues to deliver on its promise: to provide the finest seed to South African farmers.
