The Vlakte Bonsmara Study Group has played a meaningful role in the South African cattle and Bonsmara industries for over 20 years. The name has become synonymous with excellence, dedication and top-quality genetics.

This dynamic study group, that’s established on the Springbokvlakte in Limpopo, was founded in 2007 by a progressive group of Bonsmara breeders with a shared vision. Today, comprising over 20 members, these breeders are proof of what can be achieved through cooperation, discipline and a passion for genetic improvement.

Kobus du Toit, chairperson of the study group, says: “From humble beginnings to a dynamic study group with 20 members, Vlakte Bonsmara has continued growing over the years, driven by hardworking breeders who believe in strong selection, genetic quality and a group with the same passion, vision and dream.

On 11 June 2026, the study group is celebrating a significant milestone with their 20th production auction, an occasion that emphasises the quality of their animals as well as the journey the members have been on.

“This year is special … because we’re not only having another production auction, but we’re celebrating our 20th production auction!” says Kobus.

The auction, will also be hosted online via Meerkat and SwiftVee’s platforms, which enables buyers from across South Africa to participate in this remarkable event.
