A farmer from the Mumba Scheme Settlement in the Mumbwa District has recorded significant gains in productivity and service delivery after investing in modern agricultural machinery from SARO Agro Industrial Limited.
Mr Alexander Nakacinda recently purchased a brand-new TAFE tractor and a Baldan PLB Planter from the SARO Mumbwa Branch, a move he says has transformed his farming operations in the current farming season. In addition, he acquired Baldan disc ploughs, reputable implements well known for their durability and suitability to Zambian farming conditions.
Mr Nakacinda, who planted soybeans this season, explained that the investment was motivated by the need to improve efficiency and ensure early land preparation and planting.
“These machines were acquired to help me improve productivity and plant on time,” he said. “With the changing seasons, early planting makes a big difference.”
Beyond improving his own farm output, he has extended the benefits to the wider farming community. With the new equipment, he now offers ploughing and planting services to other farmers in the district who do not own machinery, creating an additional income stream while supporting local agricultural production.
He attributed his decision to continue doing business with SARO Agro Industrial Limited to a long-standing relationship built on trust and reliable service. SARO currently operates a total of 14 branches in Zambia, making agricultural machinery, implements and support services accessible to farmers nationwide.
A budding friendship
“I see SARO as a friend,” Mr Nakacinda said. “I have been a customer for some time. I first bought irrigation equipment from SARO, and I was happy with their service. That’s why I decided to acquire these machines from them as well.”
He also highlighted the importance of after-sales support, noting that SARO field technicians provided hands-on training after the machinery was delivered
“I didn’t even know how to operate a tractor before,” he said. “But after the training from SARO technicians, I can now operate the tractor and the other equipment. I am even proud to say I know how to set and calibrate the planter.”
According to him, the machinery has performed exceptionally well, enabling him to complete more work in a shorter period, both on his own farm and for clients within the community.
He further praised SARO’s after-sales service, emphasising the availability of technical support and spare parts.
“When the machine needs servicing, all I need to do is make a phone call, and the technician follows me wherever the machine is,” he said. “Spare parts are readily available, which gives me confidence to keep working without long delays.”
Mr Nakacinda’s experience reflects the growing impact of mechanisation on small- and medium-scale farmers in Zambia, demonstrating how access to quality equipment, training and reliable support can improve productivity, create new business opportunities, and strengthen rural farming communities.
