With NAMPO just around the corner, the team at Limagrain Field Seeds are eager to welcome you to their stall. But they are not just excited about the upcoming agricultural show, they also have two new maize cultivars that are making waves.
Limagrain’s yellow maize
Limagrain introduced their LG31.752BR yellow maize cultivar to the market in the 2023/2024 season. It is a medium-long grower with a comparative relative maturity (CRM) of 125 days.
LG31.752BR has excellent standing ability and is strongly multi-headed under lower populations, but performs just as well at higher populations. Limagrain’s yellow maize cultivar compensates well with cob size and multi-cobs when conditions improve.
This cultivar generally has a good disease package, although fungal control must be applied under very high grey leaf spot conditions. However, it is a very stable cultivar that can meet your yield targets.
LG31.752BR also proved itself as a top performer in the GrainSA trials in the cooler east and in the Eastern Free State. It was also the runner-up in KwaZulu-Natal and the drier western areas.
Limagrain’s white maize
LG31.753BR saw the light of day in the 2024/2025 season and has already started to make a splash.
This cultivar already has improved yields compared to LG31.747BR, which is already popular in the western production areas and continues to perform excellently.
LG31.753BR is well-adapted to the eastern and western areas of South Africa. It is a medium-late grower, with a comparative relative maturity (CRM) of 125 days.
This cultivar is a strong multi-cob white cultivar that compensates with larger and more cobs when conditions become more favourable, although the cultivar is also very well-adapted to drier conditions.
LG31.753BR has excellent standing ability, dries quickly and has a good foliar disease resistance package. Together with LG31.747BR and LG31.755BR, these three cultivars are one of the best white maize packages on the market.
